Dear Sir,
I take the liberty of addressing you. Being in such reduced circumstances, I venture to humbly appeal to you for some kind of assistance on behalf of my suffering wife and your children, the youngest being three years old. All of us are practically starving. By so doing, you will bring good tidings to six poor souls who are praying each night to be taken from this wretched state. I have tried to obtain work, but in vain, as my preferences are marked "(Invalid)". However, I have regained my health. All I need is three months' rest inside, and I shall be fit.
I am an Englishman who has served my Government faithfully for years and pray for honest work to support a loving wife and dear little children. But, being on the brink of sinking in despair, I don't see why I should enter a Work-house, the last place of existence. Also, in consideration of my past services, I am in possession of certificates, which I hold with the hope that you will give them your kind consideration.
I beg of you to give my unfortunate case consideration under the Workmen's Compensation Act of 1906. Having also made an application to the Member of Parliament for Chatham, the district in which I reside, I am not intruding or wasting your valuable time. Believe me to be,
